About Me

"I use my photography to share the lives of others, to reveal the unique personalities of my subjects and to communicate the distinct experience of an event or a scene. "

- Mark Silva

Educated as an architect and trained as a painter, Mark Silva has spent much of his life with a sketchbook in hand, observing, interpreting and detailing the world around him.  In 2004, feeling creatively unfulfilled as a professional architect and lacking the space to continue his oil painting, Mark began to explore photography. Trading sketchbook for a Nikon, he discovered that he was able to connect with people in a way he never experienced through painting.  Mark quickly realized that photography was his real calling (five years at Syracuse School of Architecture be damned!).  Mark lives in Washington, DC, with his fiancée, two dogs, three ferrets and not enough closet space.
